British Vogue October 1945 Peace and Reconstruction Issue Schiaparelli
An original issue of British Vogue, October 1945, the celebrated Peace and Reconstruction number, running to 100 pages. In place of a fashion cover, art director James de Holden-Stone gave it a blue sky swept clear of the military aircraft that had symbolised war. Inside, Bettina Wilson reports on the return to Paris of Elsa Schiaparelli, Frederick Gibberd weighs the problems of rebuilding, and Lee Miller, Cecil Beaton and Norman Parkinson photograph, an authentic artefact of the fashion press at the close of the Second World War.
