ROBERT PIGUET, FASHION HOUSE

(1933-1951)

3 Rond Point des Champs Elysées, Paris

Robert Piguet was born in Yverdon, Switzerland in 1901. When he was 17 years old, Piguet left behind his training as a banker, and traveled to Paris, where he worked for Redfern and Poiret. In 1933, Piguet opens his own salon in Rue de Cirque. At Redfern's he had developed and refines his own unique style. His collections were inspired by the cultural and political environment of the moment. By 1938, Piguet had moved his salon to the Rond Point des champs Elysee. His couture house was among the most prestigious and a favorite of the elite of all Paris.

Some of Piguet's most timeless designs include the post- New Look evening dresses which looked back to the romantic silhouettes he had produced in the 1930s. He also created many costumes for the theatre, as well as well-cut suits and softly tailored dresses.

Piquet died on February 22, 1953, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
