Detailed description
Georges Kugel Benda (French, 1873~active until 1961) was educated at the École des BeauxArts in Paris. Having begun to make a name for himself in 1907 as a portrait~artist and still~life painter, he then began to design for music hall, as well as for the fashion house of Bénédicte Rasimi (1916~18). From 1919 to 1924, he created the costumes for various Parisian revues taken to London by the producer Andre Charlot. On his return to Paris, he started to work for the Ba~ta~ clan and began a collaboration with the Moulin Rouge, creating costumes and a few posters. From 1929, as the crisis in music hall began to bite, he
dedicated himself almost exclusively to working for film studios. (Angelo Luerti "Not Only Erté", Costumes Design for the Paris Music Hall 1918-1940)
