The Ascension Day, the Doge of Venice celebrated his nuptials with the Adriatic, it was, in the seventeenth century, a sumptuous feast, entertainment pretext that attracted the magnificence of princes and merchants of the Republic. This impression of wealth, the entrance of Miss Ida Rubinstein, who personified the Adriatic, reaching out to the Doge, we fully rendered. The costumes designed by our collaborator and friend the painter Georges Barbier - excluding that of Miss Ida Rubinstein, composed by Bakst - were under the lights, searched and brilliant colors of court dresses of yesteryear. And their mixture seemed to refer us to three centuries back in time when Venice was receiving guests and embassies with pomp
