Detailed description
BERNARD & Cie
35, avenue de l'Opéra, Paris
Bernard, unlike the other couturiers of that period, never went in for the large, theatrical type of showing. He was originally a tailor, so inevitably the tendency was toward the simple, tailored lines. The firm was established in 1905 by Bernard in partnership with M. Jourda and M. Hirsch. His work was favored by the Parisienne and after the end of World War I he was "discovered" by the American buyers. ("Dressmakers of France", by Mary Brooks Picken and Dora Loues Miller, 1956)

This drawing is a part of archives of the Bernard and Cie Fashion House sold at auction in the 1980s.
