Marcel Escoffier studies in the "Arts Decoratifs" where he specializes in the costume design, before approaching the cinema by assisting the decorator Christian Bérard.
In the Cinema Marcel Escoffier will be the Assistant of the decorator Christian Bérard, and he creates, with him, notably costumes for: La Belle et la bête (Jean Cocteau, 1945) et L'Aigle à deux têtes (Jean Cocteau, 1947)

He is recognized as one of the best French costume designer by working on about twenty the other films such as: Carmen (1943), Le Secret de Mayerling (1949), Violettes impériales (1952), Nana (1954), Lola Montès (1955), Pot bouille (1957) et Les Mariés de l'an II (1970).

Marcel Escoffier designed costumes for the opera and theater, notably for La Peine capitale, Un roi deux dames un valet, Roméo et Juliette and Sur la terre comme au ciel.
